Millet Foods
Ready millet foods for Bengaluru kitchens — biscuits, dosa & upma mixes, no-maida cookies, savoury snacks. Whole-grain, no palm oil, low sugar.
The Indian food industry has spent about seventy years teaching us that "convenience food" means white flour, sugar, and palm oil. This collection is our small attempt at rebuilding that convenience shelf around a different set of grains — the millets our grandparents cooked from, before the Green Revolution and the packaged-atta era pushed them off the table.
Everything in this section is a ready-to-eat or ready-to-cook millet food — biscuits, cookies, breakfast mixes, dosa bases, upma flakes, khichdi kits, and roasted savouries. The grains are Indian millets: ragi, foxtail, kodo, little millet, jowar, and bajra. The recipes have been reformulated by small Bengaluru-based food makers, mostly women running licensed home businesses, who wanted to prove that a millet dosa mix can be as quick and reliable as a shelf brand from MTR, but from a saner ingredient list.
We are pedantic about what goes in. No palm oil. No refined flour. No high-fructose corn syrup. Sugar, where used, is jaggery or coconut sugar. Fats are cold-pressed groundnut, coconut, or A2 ghee. Preservatives are the traditional ones — turmeric, salt, dry roasting — never the industrial kind. When a maker uses a stabiliser we consider necessary, we say so on the product page.
Nutritionally the case for millets is well-known now — high fibre, high mineral density, low glycaemic load, naturally gluten-free. But the reason we stock these particular products isn't the diet label. It's that they let a busy Bengaluru household — parents, working couples, older parents on their own — reach for a quick tiffin or a kids' snack that doesn't leave anyone feeling worse afterwards. Explore below — every item on this page is something one of us has personally cooked, tasted, and served at home.
